1- يمتد المشروع بطول 21.7 كم من محطة سكة حديد أبو قير وحتى محطة مصر بالإسكندرية” منها 6.5 كم سطحي في المسافة من محطة مصر حتى ما قبل محطة الظاهرية ثم علوي بطول 15.2 كم حتى محطة أبو قير ويشتمل على عدد (20) محطة (6 سطحية – 14 علوية)
2- جارى تركيب الكمرات لكباري المسار في القطاعات من محطة طوسون وحتى محطة فيكتوريا كما يجرى تنفيذ أعمال الخوازيق والاعمدة والبلاطات للمسار العلوي.
3- جاري تنفيذ أعمال الاساسات (الخوازيق والقواعد) والاعمدة للمحطات بالمشروع.
4- جارى تقدم اعمال التسوية والاسوار فى ورشتي المشروع في ابو قير وكفر عبده كما تم البدء فى أعمال المباني والبنية الأساسية بورشة كفر عبده.
5- المشروع سيشكل نقلة نوعية كبيرة في منظومة النقل الجماعي الأخضر المستدام صديق البيئة بالإسكندرية كما سيساهم في تحقيق التنمية الاقتصادية والاجتماعية السريعة المستهدفة لمحافظة الإسكندرية
6- المشروع يهدف إلى تحقيق التشغيل الآمن للخط وخاصة بعد إلغاء المزلقانات والعديد من المعابر المخالفة والتقاطعات مع الحركة المرورية، وكذلك استيعاب حركة النقل المتزايدة وعدد الرحلات والمساهمة في تخفيض الاختناقات المرورية بالإسكندرية، وخفض استهلاك الوقود حيث أن التشغيل يعتمد على الطاقة الكهربائية النظيفة.
7- كما يهدف المشروع أيضاً إلى زيادة الطاقة القصوى للركاب من 2850 راكب/ساعة/اتجاه إلى 60.000 راكب/ساعة/اتجاه وتقليل زمن الرحلة من 50 دقيقة إلى 25 دقيقة وزيادة سرعة التشغيل من 25 كم/ساعة إلي 100 كم/ساعة وتحقيق زمن أقصر للتقاطر من 10 دقائق إلي 2,5 دقيقة.
8- يحقق الخط تبادل خدمة نقل الركاب مع خط سكك حديد القاهرة /الإسكندرية في محطة مصر، ومع خط سكك حديد القاهرة /الإسكندرية وترام الرمل في محطة سيدي جابر، ومع ترام الرمل في محطة فيكتوريا، ومع خط سكك حديد رشيد في محطة المعمورة.
